Environment, Health and Safety

FUJIFILM Wako Chemicals U.S.A. Corporation and our employees are participating members of our local community, state and nation. Wako actively directs our resources to support science education, human health and welfare, cultural programs and issues that matter most to our neighbors, community, customers and business partners.

Safety and environmental protection are important invariables amid changing values within our communities. Wako’s assurance of safety and environmental protection not only fulfills the legal requirements, but also constitutes an obligation and is a key factor in all of our business dealings.

Awards

FUJIFILM Wako Chemicals U.S.A. has received recognition from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality for our exemplary compliance in industrial wastewater treatment. Wako has received the Pretreatment Gold Award for the last 4 years.

In 2012, Wako received the Industrial Waste and Pretreatment Environmental Excellence Award. Chesterfield County nominated Wako for our dedication in achieving the Gold Award every year.

Wako has been certified as a Virginia Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) worksite for 2012 – 2014. This is for outstanding achievement in occupational health and safety.

Involvement

As a company dedicated to protecting the environment and to providing a safe and healthy work place for our valued employees, Wako participates in organizations with this goal in mind. Wako is an active participant in "Business for the Chesapeake Bay" organization, which aims to reduce the release of chemicals into the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers.

Wako is also involved in several organizations within the community and industries that are related to our products. These organizations are The Virginia Biotechnology Association, The American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and The Greater Richmond Technology Council.

The employees band together to participate in several charitable events in our community throughout the year. These include Chesterfield Christmas Mother, Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure, and the American Heart Association Heart Walk.
